History of Roses and Fukuyama

The major part of Fukuyama city was destroyed in air raids on August 8, 1945.  The residents around the Minami Park, the present Rose Park, planted about 1000 seedlings of roses in 1956.  They wanted to bring their town richness and beauty again.  Roses became the city flower of Fukuyama in 1985. There are about 550,000 roses in Fukuyama.
