Taicho-ro is famous for its picturesque view of the ocean and islands.

It is in Fukuzen-ji Temple.

The temple was built in the Heian period.
(It was founded by Kuya Shonin around 950 under the order of Emperor Murakami.)

In the Edo period, the temple was also used as a guesthouse for Korean diplomats.

Taicho-ro was built around 1690 and used as a reception hall.

In 1711, a Korean diplomat described the view from Taicho-ro as "the most beautiful scenery in Japan."

Today you can still enjoy the same view --- the calm ocean, Benten Island and its pagoda, and Sensui Island.

It costs 200 yen to enter but this is a must see in Tomonoura.

Also, don’t forget to stroll around the port of Tomo.

Historical buildings and narrow streets will take you back in time.
